The Iron Rule of the First Clans
I
n the first age of man the scattered clans struggled to regain and
rebuild the lands lost by the noble houses, recovering the ancient scepters.
Marching across the world of Necromium they raided and pillaged the many
realms, taking and killing everything they found. From these lands they
demanded loyalty and above all obedience to the clan. Soon the most powerful
clans were leveraging heavy taxes on the populations and grew rich in wealth
and power.
It was during this time that the first monks left the many churches that
had been established to worship to the gods and beg mercy and forgiveness
from the immortals. These monks preached faith and humility, urging the
powerful clans to donate much of their spoils to aid the poor and hungry.
With the funds gathered, the monks went out and aided the many newcomers that
came to Necromium's shores; teaching them their kind ways and urging them
to remember their charity and help others. Though many clans aided the monks,
most paid them no heed and accumulated wealth only for thier own means.
And so the world was ruled until the great cataclysm. Then, as the gods
punished the mortals for their crimes of pride and passion, were the great
scepters taken from the mortals and hidden away. Down on the world did the
gods proclaim that never will any clan not of noble standing wield a scepter
of rulership again. From such cryptic statements did the seers see that one
day the regency will be reborn, the clans united, and order restored to the
world.
